Meta may have ‘bad news’ for Grand Theft Auto fans, here’s why

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is a beloved game in the Grand Theft Auto series, and Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has reportedly confirmed that the VR version of the game will not receive any updates. In 2021, Meta announced the release of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas VR, assuring players that it would be accessible on the Oculus Quest 2, now known as Meta Quest 2. They also promised to share more information soon. However, after almost three years since the announcement, the game is still not available, leading to rumors that development may have faced challenges.

During Connect 2023, when asked about the potential release date for the VR version of GTA San Andreas, a spokesperson from Meta stated that there were no updates at the moment, according to GameRant. This suggests that the game may not be announced in 2023, and it remains unclear if Meta plans to cancel the VR title altogether.

Meta has already announced the upcoming release of the Quest 3 in the United States. The Meta Quest 3 was initially announced for Meta Quest 2, and last month, Meta showcased the headset for the first time. The company explained that it would enhance the gaming experience compared to the Meta Quest 2.

The Meta Quest 3 comes in two versions, one with 128 GB and another with 512 GB, priced at $499 and $649, respectively. The headset is lighter and features advanced camera sensors. With 8 GB of RAM and a 4K+ Infinite Display with 2064×2208 resolution per eye, the device offers improved connectivity with Wi-Fi 6E and other features.

If Meta eventually releases GTA San Andreas VR, it will likely be available on both Meta Quest 2 and 3. However, Meta has not confirmed any specific launch window for the game.
