First-year fizz: How freshers aced fashion game with comfort & style

Comfort and style were seamlessly blended at Delhi University as first-year students confidently showcased their fashion choices while pursuing their education. The campus came alive with budget-friendly and trendy fashion as freshers attended orientation programmes at their respective colleges. At Miranda House, a perfect combination of tradition and contemporary fashion was exhibited as students confidently wore kurtis, jhumkas, and jeans.

“We enjoy mixing classic pieces with modern styles. It enables us to embrace our heritage while staying in touch with the present,” explained Neha, a first-year student. She further shared her excitement about exploring street shopping in Janpath, where boho-chic clothing, antique jewelry, and much more can be found, as recommended by her seniors. Neha resides in a PG accommodation in Kamla Nagar, close to her college.

Meanwhile, at Shri Ram Centre of Commerce (SRCC), freshers opted for Western chic attire, including checked shirts, pastel tunics paired with palazzos, graphic T-shirts with shorts, classic denim jeans with crop tops, as well as flip-flops, canvas shoes, and white sneakers.

“It’s all about being comfortable yet stylish,” emphasized Aisha, a fresher. She added, “We strategically choose outfits that keep us cool in the heat while still allowing us to be fashionable.” Karan, another first-year student at SRCC, shared a similar sentiment, stating, “We aim for a light and breezy look without compromising on style.” Comfortable trousers and polo shirts were go-to choices for many students like Karan at the college.

The new students are eager to explore Delhi’s famous street markets, such as Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, Janpath, and Kamla Nagar. These markets offer them the opportunity to express their personal style while sticking to a budget.

“I love going to Lajpat Nagar because I can find fashionable clothes and accessories at affordable prices. My father warned me not to overspend on fast fashion, but my mother, who dropped me off and picked me up, promised to visit again, not for me, but for the market,” shared Riya, a first-year student at Daulat Ram College, with TOI.

Riya also expressed her desire to take on the “Rs 100 budget shopping challenge” in Sarojini Nagar, renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and great bargain deals.
