Garena delays the launch of ‘Free Fire India’

Garena, a Singapore-based online games developer and publisher, recently announced the relaunch of the popular mobile game Free Fire India. The company initially planned to launch Garena Free Fire India on September 5 in the country but has now decided to postpone the relaunch.

Garena has not yet revealed the new launch date for Free Fire India. In a statement, the company expressed its delight at the enthusiastic response from the Indian community. However, Garena wants to ensure the best possible gaming experience for its Indian fans, so it has decided to delay the launch by a few more weeks. The company aims to refine the gameplay and complete the localization of the Free Fire India experience. Garena expressed gratitude for the support of the Free Fire India community and asked for patience while they work on delivering the ultimate battle royale experience.

The mobile game was originally banned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology along with 50 other China-linked apps under Section 69a of the IT ACT, 2000. Free Fire India had a significant presence in India, with over 40 million of its 75 million monthly active users being Indian players in January, according to analytics firm App Annie. In February 2022, Garena’s Free Fire: Illuminate was the most popular app to be banned in India.

Garena is highlighting various localized features in the rebranded version of Free Fire specifically designed for the Indian user base. These features include content tailored to Indian players and elements that promote a safe and enjoyable gaming experience. Among these features are a parental oversight verification system, gameplay restrictions, and reminders to take breaks.
